to be 21st Century Leaders

Lawler Elementary has been named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey Co., the culmination of a five-year process focusing on leadership, culture and academics. The recognition is based on the school’s achievements in school and student outcomes, realized through implementing The Leader in Me process.

Sean Covey, Education Practice Leader, Franklin Covey, said, “We are thrilled to recognize Lawler Elementary as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. Schools who achieve the Lighthouse Milestone are great examples of a strong leadership model, process, and what it means to be a Leader in Me school. This school has experienced transformational results by implementing the principles and practices related to The Leader in Me. We are so pleased to celebrate the success they are experiencing.”

Earlier this school year, Lawler earned Distinguished honors and was also been named a School of Distinction, putting it in the 95th percentile of all schools in the state.

Brad Vincent, principal of Lawler Elementary said, “We are honored to become a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. We have seen such amazing results from implementing The Leader in Me process at Lawler.”

“Students have taken ownership of their learning by setting and monitoring goals, they display leadership characteristics in and outside of the school setting, and are growing into positive decision makers. This process not only has had a significant impact on our students, parents and staff, but also on our community.”

The Leader in Me focuses on the whole child, and provides all students opportunities to excel based on their individual talents, skills and interests, often outside the academic or athletic realm.

“It has been amazing journey to watch our students and staff grow over the past five years,” said Lighthouse Team leader Molly Critchelow.

“The staff has worked tirelessly to teach all students that they can become leaders and that every child has potential. Students have learned through this program that everyone is good at something and they just have to keep looking until they find their voice.”

There are currently over 3000 Leader in Me Schools across the nation; fewer than 300 have attained “Lighthouse” status.

“Our students and staff have worked very hard and it’s extremely gratifying to seeing that hard work recognized”, Vincent noted.

The school Lighthouse Team is planning a celebration for the tremendous accomplishment before the end of the school year.
